What is Embodied Leadership Coaching?

After 10 years of working with clients in corporate settings, I found that emotional and behavioural blocks would regularly appear in these areas:

  • Confidence

  • People pleasing

  • Self-worth

  • Boundaries

  • Direct communication

This would often lead to anxiety and in the worst cases burnout. This is where the nervous system has been under so much stress without a break, it shuts down.

I work with the mind and body to see why tension arrises in certain circumstances. And work with neuropsychology and psychodynamic exploration to find the roots of this tension. I have developed the steps of my own practical style of Embodied Leadership Coaching as PACR:

  1. Perception – Noticing bodily sensations, emotions, and habitual responses in leadership contexts.

  2. Alignment – Clarifying personal values and aligning them with leadership aspirations.

  3. Consistency – Engaging in consistent behaviours that cultivate self-awareness and emotional agility.

  4. Refinement – Reflecting on insights from experience to lead with authenticity and adaptability.

Coaching usually comes up within the process of therapy and I don’t practice it as a separate discpline to therapy. This is because they are complementary practices; therapy can help us explore the roots of thoughts, feelings and behaviour - give them meaning and provide the freedom to make other choices. While coaching can give a framework to what those other choices can look like.

Power posing is a useful way of lowering cortisol and increasing clear and confident communication.
